I'd like to collect some field stories about using dotNetInstaller. Can I please ask you some questions?

* What's the name and url of your company?
* What product(s) are using dotNetInstaller?
* What's the $ size of the product(s)? (eg. a few $, thousands of $, millions of $)
* When did you start using dotNetInstaller?
* How are you using dotNetInstaller?

Please share any other implementation details, but keep this to a few lines, don't write a novel :)

  • Company: Application Security Inc.
  • Products: DbProtect, AppDetectivePro
  • Started using around August, 2008
  • We hook up a number of inter-related components, using DNI. We also bootstrap a bunch of prerequisites. All of the components are mandatory, and there's quite a complicated set of conditions imposed on them.

Company: CCMJ Consulting LLC
Products: Evaluating for a project
Started: Around Jan 09
Using: To get .net framework installed before launching a custom .net program that installs software a product written in .Net and c++.  Not using msi because of advanced stuff done during install - such as product key check calling web services, complex user registration, downloads and unzips installs latest install package on thread, some special dependencies, etc...would have to create about 10 custom install screens for msi in C++, was easier to just write an installer 'look alike' in .net - so far it's a much better user experience than a standard installer...and simpler than dealing with msi...

Thanks for great project...very nice.

Company: COPsync, Inc.

Products: Evaluating for our next release.

Started: January 2010

Using: To handle pre-reqs and bootstrapping our 32-bit and 64-bit installers together.

We need to make sure .NET 2.0 is installed along with Crystal Reports 10.5. We also started running into issues when we had some 64-bit clients come on so we needed an easy way to bundle a 64-bit installer in our release package.

Usage: We are using it to package up various prerequisites and components in an automated build process using WIX. DotNetInstaller has been a solid performer for us and has saved us a lot of time building our own, or money by not needing some of the commercial products.
